DLK answers your questions.
Q. Why are you giving a discount to
DD members?
Because everyone with
diabetes can benefit from a better understanding of the foods they
eat. There are many new DD members who simply 'don't understand'
about nutrition and food choices. They need help to identify food
and lifestyle choices that can help control diabetes .. this discount
helps make it a little easier for them to get started on making
changes.
Q.
Do I have to be a member of Diabetes Daily to get the discount?
No. I don't
check on memberships but I am hoping you are at least a regular 'guest'
or 'lurker' at Diabetes Daily.
Why? Because it gives me an indication that you are taking your
diabetes seriously and actively seeking advice about all elements of
the condition.
Remember, I do not give
advice or offer opinions about meds or testing strips or any of the
other multitude of topics best discussed with your doctor or your
experienced peers. (If you refer a friend to this webpage to take
advantage of the discount coupon, please also refer them to the
Diabetes
Daily forum.)
Q. What about counting carbs?
Whether
or not you count carbs is your decision. I will help you
understand which foods can be considered 'good carbs'. (I don't
believe all carbs were 'born equal'.) Whether you actually count
carbs or not, I think you'll agree that it always helps to avoid 'bad
carbs' and replace them with healthier options.
Q. Do I have to follow a strict
diet? Can I change it if I get bored?
I
use the term 'diet' to mean 'foods that you eat'. I profile a
variety of what I consider to be the best foods to include in your diet
if you want to avoid
or control T2 diabetes ... and I explain why
they are helpful. Then you decide if and when to eat them.
For the first month your main aim is to read through the ebooks I send
you and ease yourself into new
diet and lifestyle choices. At the end of the first month, you
will receive information about even more foods and your food choices
expand greatly. At all times, however, the choice about what you
eat is yours. If you have Type 2 Diabetes (or are struggling with
pre-diabetes) you should monitor your levels and discuss your diet
changes with your doctor.
Q. Are there foods that can help
with male sexual problems?
Yes. There are some
references to foods that can help address male sexual problems in the
main text "How to Save Money, Lose
Weight and Improve Your Health in a Diabetes World".
(I have considered writing more on the subject but decided 'family
friendly' discouraged it.) In my experience, better control of
diabetes and improvements in general health have resulted in some
success stories. How much of the foods those happy men have
eaten, I couldn't say.
Can I guarantee that every male
will be successful? No. Fortunes are spent every year in
the search for fail-safe solutions to male problems. I can only
suggest dietary changes that may help. If I receive enough
questions about this topic in the future I would consider writing about
it in more depth.
Q.
Will you try and sell me 'supplements' ?
No. I will actively try
and help you avoid supplements by encouraging you to source the
vitamins, minerals, and nutrients you need from real foods. I
understand if you feel that many ebooks about diabetes are simply 'an
excuse to sell supplements' ... but mine aren't.
Q. Was your book written by a ghost writer?
Are you just pretending to be the author?
No. I wrote every word in all my
books. And I also write each Monthly Motivator.
If you see my
text with someone else's name as author, please report them to me.
Q.
Can you promise me I will save money, lose weight and improve my health
if I read your book?
How much money you save, how much weight you lose,
and how great the health improvements will be obviously depends on the
individual. Some people are already at their ideal weight when
reading the book and just want to learn about healthy foods and
medicinal herbs. Others are taking medications with a 'weight
gain' side effect. Obviously that complicates my answer, but the
general answer is yes, I am confident that everyone who reads
my books will at least be able to make positive improvements to their
health ... and will save money and lose weight as a result of those
improvements. If you read it and disagree, ask for your money
back.
Q.
What if I don't think you can help me.
You have 30 days to ask for your money back.
That gives you plenty of tme to read the main book. If you don't
think my advice will help you save money, lose weight and improve your
health and you have no interest in receiving the rest of the bonuses, I
will give 100% money back and send you no more information.
Q. Do I have to
eat tofu and mung beans?
I don't mention tofu in my main text. I do
briefly mention mung beans. Whether or not you eat them is up to
you. Tofu is one of
many, many foods discussed in a later document I send to readers, but
obviously you don't have to eat it. (lol.) Most of the foods discussed are foods you will recognize and may already eat ... but perhaps not often enough.
Q.
I'm T1. Can I read your book?
The original title of my main text was "How to Save Money,
Lose Weight and Improve Your Health in a (Type 2) Diabetes World"
but it has been shortened in common use. The book came about as a
result of my involvement with people with Type 2 diabetes. I
originally researched the foods and herbs with Type 2 diabetes in
mind. At no time was I trying to address issues associated with
Type 1 (and we all know there are
differences.)
My biggest concern is that my suggestions for foods and herbs that help
lower b/g levels in Type 2's might risk hypos in Type 1's.
Recently I did give a copy of How to Save Money, Lose
Weight and Improve Your Health in a Diabetes World
to a T1 member of Diabetes Daily to read because I was receiving emails
such as yours from other T1s. (Not willing to include a quote
here
but it might get discussed by the member in a thread on the Diabetes
Daily forum.) For the purpose
of this exercise however, I continue to advise against T1's buying the
book unless you are absolutely
confident that you have your diabetes under control enough to be
able to run your 'T1 filter' while reading it.
T1's please note.
I stress again ...the main book is written for people with Type 2
Diabetes, people with pre-diabetes, and those without any diabetes
diagnosis but at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. But it is not written
for T1's. Yes, you can learn a lot about foods from the combined
contents of the 'Bonus Pack' available here ... but you won't learn
about anything specific to
Type 1 diabetes. And if you're a T1 who reads the main text
please don't be offended by the emphasis on losing weight and any
references to obesity. Like it or not, for T2's the issues of
weight loss and the implications of obesity are high on the list of
priorities.
Q. Is this a "raw food" diet?
No, this is about "health-giving" foods to include
in your diet. Some foods are best eaten raw. Others are
best eaten cooked. I tell you which is which ... and why.
Q.
Are you a vegan?
No.
Q.
I have tried lots of diets before and failed. What makes your
diet better?
You can't fail. You can simply have varying
degrees of success.
Q, Is it true
that you wrote the book about the medicinal herbs that fix diabetes?
I wrote a book about foods, herbs and lifestyle
choices that can help control Type 2 diabetes ... but at no time have I
ever considered herbs capable of performing miracles. I don't
believe that herbal remedies of any type can be expected to counteract
the effects of inappropriate food and lifestyle choices. But I do
believe it is possible for many people to reverse the display of
symptoms associated with T2 diabetes if they make appropriate decisions
about their diet and lifestyle.
I'll need to be alive for another 50 years before
I'll offer an opinion on how 'permanent' those improvements can
be. Meanwhile, I will continue to encourage as many people as
possible to strive for similar success in their own efforts to control
their diabetes.
Q. How can I tell if following your advice is working for me?
In the short term, extra cash in your pocket will
tell you if you are saving money. Your clothes size will tell you
if you are losing weight. Your b/g, cholesterol and other levels
will tell you if your health is improving. Your greatest savings,
however, are likely to be long term if you manage to avoid the need for
supplements, surgery, loss of income and other expenses associated with
diabetes-related complications.
Q.
I suffer from neuropathy. Can you help?
You will learn about foods that can help improve
circulation.
Q. Is there one food that can end
my T2 diabetes?
Reaching and maintaining good health is not as
simple as one food, one pill or one potion. Read my book.
If you don't feel as though you have a better understanding and
confidence about what is required to give you the best chance of
successfully managing your diabetes when you've finished
the book, ask for your money back.
Q.
Do you want me to write a testimonial?
I appreciate your positive feedback but I believe
testimonials only count for a reader when they know the person. I
prefer 'word
of mouth' recommendations instead of quotes on websites that could be
made up. Please tell your friends directly.
Q.
I have been overweight for a long time and I don't have diabetes but my
doctor says I should read your book. Why?
I have been aware for the past few years that a
number of doctors have been pointing some of their patients in my
direction. (Back to that issue of word of mouth
recommendations.) Once you've read How to Save Money, Lose
Weight and Improve Your Health in a Diabetes World and Generations of Diet,
I think "why" should be obvious. If it's not, ask your doctor ..
or write to me again when you've read the book. (lol)
Q.
Is the "pre-diabetes diet" different from the "Type 2 diabetes diet"?
Everyone receives the same information.
Recommendations for the first month are the same. The choices you
make from the many other food profiles you receive at the end of the
first month will be determined by whether or not you have
diabetes. By that time you'll have a greater understanding of
what your body needs and what sort of foods you personally should be
avoiding and/or embracing.
Q.
Do you tell me everything I need to know about diabetes?
My focus is on foods and lifestyle choices that
help make the foods more effective. Your doctor should be your
primary source of information about diabetes. You can also discuss
diabetes-related questions with members of forums like Diabetes
Daily. But ultimately, key decisions should be made by you and
your doctor.
Q.
My friend can't afford to buy your book. Can she copy mine?
If your friend genuinely can't afford to buy my
book, tell her to write to me directly. Giving copies of my book
to others is in breach of copyright laws. I am the only person
who can decide to give a copy of my book away. But yes, I do give
away copies from time to time.
Q.
What if my question is not answered in your books?
Write to me.
Q. I take a lot
of supplements. Should I stop taking them?
Not right away. Adjust your food choices and ask
your doctor's opinion. You may no longer need them.
Q. Are you going
to expect me to stop my medication?
No, absolutely not. I do however tell you to
monitor your levels and consult your doctor. It is possible that
you may require changes to meds as your body adjusts to your new food
choices ... but that's up to your doctor.
Q.
I am newly dx and don't understand much of what I've seen about
T2. Will I understand what's in your book?
Yes I'm sure you'll understand it. (Is this
because you've seen me quoting medical research in some of the DD
posts?) Members on Diabetes Daily come from all walks of life and
some are more academic than others. I enjoy the process of
analysing complex subjects and reading research and comparing opinions
with others on the Diabetes Daily forum ... but in my books I keep
everything easy to read and understand. (I do the 'hard work' of
reading the research ... and you get the much easier job of just
reading my brief summaries.)
Start by reading How to Save Money, Lose Weight and Improve
Your Health in a Diabetes World first. That's
enough to get you going. And read the 'Monthly Motivators'
as they arrive. You can ignore the other bonus books if you like
... but they are there if you need them. (Remember, they are not
costing you anything in the Bonus
Pack deal.) The only other book you absolutely must
open and take a look at is the one I will send you at the end of the
first month. It's a bit like an encyclopedia (lol) because it is
so big ... but it lists all the foods individually and you only read
the parts that interest you. They are also easy to find, and easy
to read.
Q.
Is it true you give gardening hints?
ROFL! Yes ... and over the years I've found
that many people I've helped with
diabetes have followed my lead and grown the 'important' things.
Particularly medicinal herbs ... but some of them now have
very impressive vegetable gardens as well. (No, I don't tell you
how to grow your whole garden although I might just write a book like
that one day in the future.)
I'm told I'm the only author who has
included gardening tips in a book about diabetes ... but I'm also the
only author who has included a bunch of my other tips as well. Most
people think that's a good thing. It's nice to get something
that's not just a rewrite of what everyone else is saying.
Q.
What is "Generations of Diet?"?
'Generations of Diet' is an e-book I wrote that
includes my personal observations, quotes from various research outlets
... and my reflections on interpreting that research. It is
really just a 'further discussion' document that has proven helpful to
people who need an 'extra boost' to start (or continue) making
appropriate changes to their diet and lifestyle.
I refer to it as 'food for thought'. If you
find yourself sliding into your old way of thinking, read 'Generations
of Diet'.
